Scream 3

Cast: Neve Campbell
Studio: Dimension
Rating: 5/10

What do they say about trilogies? I think it’s that the movies progressively get worse. We’ve had a few great trilogies, like The Godfather and Star Wars, but Scream 3 isn’t in that lofty company. Scream 3 is entertaining, but not amazing or even really scary for that matter.

Here is the gist: Sidney Prescott (Neve Cambell) wants to escape the memories of the past but cannot, no matter how hard she tries or hides. The escape is made even harder when actors of the onscreen flick within the flick, “Stab 3”, begin to die. Of course, this brings Sidney back into the action to help the cops figure out who is behind the copycat murders.

The script is good, even though original Scream writer Kevin Williamson didn’t pen it. The plot thickens as you begin to suspect everybody, even dopey Dewey. The movie isn’t as good as the first, but better than the last. So the trilogy theory is lost here. I’m sure it’ll do great at the box office, but it’s just not a must see, unless you think all your friends will see it and spoil the ending for you. In that case, the movie wouldn’t even be worth renting.

The ending is the only part of the movie I really enjoyed, but the answers offered to questions I never even thought were up in the air are just a little too easy. Still, it’s hardly predictable, and that may be its saving grace. I enjoyed it mildly, but could live without seeing it again. I’d opt for renting the first Scream and getting scared all over again.
