King of the Hill: Season Six

King of the Hill
Cast: Mike Judge, Greg Daniels
Studio: Fox
Rating: 8/10

CORPORATE LINE: “KING OF THE HILL” is a hilarious animated half-hour comedy series from Mike Judge, the creator of “Beavis & Butthead,” and Greg Daniels (“The Simpsons,” “Saturday Night Live”). “KING OF THE HILL” follows the day-to-day activities of Hank Hill, his family and their neighbors in a suburban Texas town.

Hank Hill is employed at Strickland Propane, where his position as Assistant Manager earns him the respect of his pals. Hank’s wife, Peggy, is a homemaker who often finds herself saying “I told you so” as she watches him do things the hard way. Additionally, she is the pillar of emotional support for their only son, Bobby. Although Bobby is Hank’s pride and joy, he is more often than not the unenthusiastic recipient of his father’s over-enthusiastic instructions on “how to be a man.”

THE REVIEW: I have to be honest; I watch reruns of King of the Hill nearly every night on FX so it’s hard to review a show when you are already a biased fan. The sixth season is certainly the best. The characters never lose their brilliance and edge. Hank is still uptight, Bobby still isn’t right, and Peggy still thinks more of herself than anyone else.

The best episodes include:
“Bobby Goes Nuts” – Bobby learns self-defense and protects himself by kicking boys in their special place.
“I’m With Cupid” – Bobby is taking his breakup with Connie hard, but it only gets worse when Bill teaches him a thing or two about being depressed.
“The Substitute Spanish Prisoner” – This isn’t the funniest episode; however it’s notable because of how entertaining it is to see Peggy show her naivety and then turn the tables on a scam artist.
“Tankin’ it to the Streets” – Bill finds out he was a guinea pig for the army—and they were trying to make him a walrus man.

THE EXTRAS:
No extras. It would have been nice to have some commentaries at least. Maybe the show’s creators ran out of ideas.

FRANKLY: King of the Hill still is a show that has constantly gotten better.
