Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle

Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
Cast: Cameron Diaz
Studio: Columbia
Rating: 5/10

Corporate Line: Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle is a sequel to the blockbuster action-adventure-comedy hit released by Columbia Pictures and inspired by the popular television series. The sequel reunites Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu as the indomitable crime-fighting heriones. In the Angels’ new adventure, the captivating trio once again demonstrates their expertise as espionage and martial arts, and disguise.

The Good: Full Throttle is fun. It’s better for a good laugh than it is for its action.

The cast is the best thing this series has going for it. Bernie Mac is hilarious as Bosley. Just wait until he tries to prove he is of another nationality. Cameron Diaz is fantastic once again as the ditzy blond. Lucy Liu plays a great straight woman to Diaz and Barrymore. The three have a good chemistry and charm. The funny thing is I’d rather see them in a comedy.

The Bad: What happened to the art of stunts? I don’t think there are any real stunts in this film. Everything looks computer animated. If we can’t do it with stuntmen then is it really a stunt? The action scenes are beyond reason – sucking all the air out of the fun. The opening scene is absolutely absurd. I wonder what happened to gravity? Could I jump off my roof and fly? Doubt it.

Sure you could check reality at the door. I just wanted to watch something within reason. If I wanted to watch fantasy I’d go see Spiderman or any other character running around in superhero tights. Has anyone involved with this series seen the original Charlie’s Angels? This is like the Angels on adrenaline mixed with steroids and caffeine.

Here is a question, do they call them angels because they are already dead and have come back to earth to help us mortals? If we were to believe anyone could survive any of these ‘stunts’ then we’d have to be completely brain dead. It’s a shame that McG turned this Angels feature into an extended MTV video.

Frankly: The problem is there are two sides to this movie and it’s the good humor side that is better than the other side that is full throttle. If I was the editor I’d cut out the action and keep in the comedy and rename the film “Charlie’s Angels: Good Humor”. Or beg someone to film some real stunts and make me believe.
