Crossroads

Crossroads
Cast: Britney Spears
Studio: Paramount
Rating: 4.5/10

Insert studio synopsis: Crossroads is the story of three childhood friends, Lucy (Britney Spears), Kit (Zoe Saldana) and Mimi (Taryn Manning), who, after eight years apart, rediscover their friendship on a cross-country trip. With barely a plan, practically no money but plenty of dreams, the girls catch a lift with Mimi’s handsome mysterious friend Ben (Anson Mount) in his ’73 Buick convertible. Along the way they not only gather experiences that will change their lives forever, but they also discover how important it is to hold onto their hearts’ desires.

Crossroads is nonsense of the highest order. From the shameful innuendo, to finding yourself, and wishing you didn’t find this movie. This movie is a way to showcase the film’s star; Britney Spears. It’s almost paint by numbers. First Britney has to show her range by floating through emotions from happiness, to sadness and so on. Then secondly we have to show her singing, which you’d expect to be at least worthwhile, however it couldn’t be further from the truth.

Britney does not work when she is the sugary sweet good girl. We see her play that part everyday and we are sick of it. When Britney attempts to wage a war against this image she is actually interesting, too bad it’s only momentarily. In the end Spears comes off stiff. It’s hard to know who to blame, Spears or a terrible film.
