Quake 4

Quake 4
Game: Quake 4
Platform: Xbox 360
Studio: Activision
Rating: 8.5/10

GAME DESCRIPTION: In a desperate war for Earth’s survival against an unrelenting alien enemy, the only way to defeat them is to become one of them.

Earth is under siege by the Strogg, a barbaric alien race moving through the universe consuming, recycling and annihilating any civilization in their path. In a desperate attempt to survive, an armada of Earth’s finest warriors is sent to take the battle to the Strogg home planet.
You are Matthew Kane, an elite member of Rhino Squad and Earth’s valiant invasion force. Fight alone, with your squad, or in hover tanks and mechanized walkers as you engage in a heroic mission to the heart of the Strogg war machine.

Battle through early missions as a deadly marine, then after your capture, as a marine-turned-Strogg with enhanced abilities and the power to turn the tide of the war.

Built on id Software’s revolutionary DOOM 3 technology, QUAKE 4 also features fast-paced multiplayer competition modeled after the speed, feel, and style of QUAKE III Arena.

PLAY: Quake 4 is not much different to play than its previous incarnations. There are occasions when you have to kill aliens and others when you must help others. This is very similar to Doom 3 in looks and game play. You can replenish your health and armor—which is a nice touch. Occasionally you’ll come across items hidden in the dark.

AI has its issues on both sides. Your squad doesn’t always act intelligently. The enemies appear to be tougher than they are. They often seem as if completely on the attack and never really act in an intelligent manner. You will come across some Strogg soldiers who looks just like you and that makes for a tough challenge. They are more tactical than the crazy looking aliens making you more conscious of who you attack and who is attacking you.

GRAPHICS: There is no way young kids should play Quake 4. The mutilations, blood, and gore are way over the top. The Doom engine looks great. If you don’t have a high-end PC you will be astonished at the amazing details and environments. The marines all appear to be clones—as there are no real changes in any of these generic characters.

SOUND: Anyone that has played Quake knows what they are in for. The sounds add a fantastically eerie atmosphere.

FRANKLY: One of the biggest problems is something that has been happening with most of the Xbox 360 games—quick porting of releases. The Xbox 360 version has no co-op play even though there is a multiplayer online mode however it doesn’t make up for the lack of co-op play. Even though Quake 4 looks great it still feels like a rushed release.
