Super Furry Animals bring Rings Around The World an album I’ve long anticipated. I can say unequivocally that it was worth the wait.

Super Furry Animals can bring songs ranging from mind-blowing instrument pieces supported by vocals (“Alternate Route To Vulcan Street”) to monster-rock tracks like “(Drawing) Rings Around The World”. The aforementioned rock track is still spinning around my head. It’s impossible to shake like one of those ever-catchy commercials yet this one keeps you bopping your head happily all day long.

Pavement might be scratching their heads and wondering if there are possibly any more bands they can influence as they hear “Sidewalk Serfer Girl”. There is more here than you know. “It’s Not The End Of The World?” There are painfully trite lyrics like when singer Gruff Rhys gives us “Turn all the hate in the world into a mockingbird and make it fly away”. It’s fluff that still sounds strong. Speaking of fluff, “Juxtapozed With U” is nonsense of the highest order. But who says nonsense can’t have its day?

Happiness can be a hoaky-hillbilly song right? Well “Run! Christian, Run!” would have you and I believe so. The conversion is on.

The disgustingly hooky “Receptacle For The Respectable” rains down from a solid melodic black hole and swallows you completely. “Presidential Suite” acts a lot like Blur on The Great Escape. It tells an absolutely asinine story but covered with such delicious flavors how can you dispose of it?

These guys are almost freaking ridiculous. Their songs are so sappy and sweet that there is no reason for me to ever escape them. It might all be madness covered as pop songs and it’s on the edge of being absolutely brilliant. Did I say I was still on the edge? Well I looked over and fell to my death.
