Bjork – Selmasongs

Bjork
Artist: Bjork
Title: Selmasongs
Label: Elektra
Rating: 7/10

Bjork is in a movie. I’m being serious. It’s called Dancer In The Dark. She plays a mother losing her sight and okay, I wont’ bore you with a film review, but the great thing about her acting in a movie is that it means a soundtrack. And of course you can’t have a musician in a film without them being involved in the soundtrack. The only problem with the album, entitled simply Selmasongs, is that there are only seven tracks.

“Cvalda” has a Disney heart that beats around the timid voice of Bjork. Radiohead’s Thom Yorke duets with Bjork on “I’ve Seen It All”. The beautiful lullaby “Scatterheart” dozes off into the squeaky “In The Musicals”. Bjorks unique vocal style is still at the heart of her music, but it’s her songwriting ability that’s the soul. Selmasongs allows Bjork to flourish around a theme and shine around the emotion of her character. “New World” waltzes you out, ushering in a new phase in an amazing career.
