Stella Soleil – Dirty Little Secret

Stella Soleil
Artist: Stella Soleil
Title: Dirty Little Secret
Label: Universal
Rating: 5.5/10

Remember Sister Soleil? Well, Stella is back and she has a Dirty Little Secret.

According to the press release, Dirty Little Secret was recorded in five countries over a two-year span. And depending on your taste, this can be a good or bad thing. Just listen to the first single, “Kiss Kiss”. It’s all over the place, trying its best to make everyone happy.

Most of the first few tracks sound like ’80’s tacky nonsense. “Pretty Young Thing” is one of them and “Imperfect” pushes the glam a bit too far. Then Stella drops “Love You To Death” as one of the album’s best. I just can’t figure out if she wants to be a pop or rock star. Another curve ball comes in “Twilight”, with booming techno beats that make the track not at all enjoyable.

With all the trite ’80’s garbage and the uncertain direction, I don’t know what in the world Stella Soleil is up to or who would like this album. I guess they just hope sex will once again sell and that this alone can put Soleil on somebody’s map.
