Black Eyed Peas – Elephunk

Black Eyed Peas
Artist: Black Eyed Peas
Title: Elephunk
Label: A&M
Rating: 7/10

Company Line: The Black Eyed Peas will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and newcomer Fergie named the album Elephunk to conjure up a big, deep funk sound.

The Good:
“Hands Up” – Full of flavor. The sound is polished and a new direction for BEP.
“Smells Like Funk” – Ready to get funked up?
“Fly Away” – Hot rhymes that flow into a chorus that steals you away.
“The Boogie That B” – Trust me, it grows on you.
“Where Is The Love” – Everyone is cashing in on state we are in with terrorism and troubles around the world. The difference? BEP make it sound great.

The Marginal:
“Labor (It’s A Holiday)” – Borrowed beats and hooks make a decent song a little less appealing.
“Hey Mama” – Better with each listen.
“Let’s Get Retarded” – Funnier than it is good.
“Anxiety” – I’m not digging BEP as a rock group.

The Ugly:
“Sexy” – I’m not sure what the deal with this track was as they sniped bits from past hits.

Frankly: It’s funk-a-licious.
