Rival Schools – United By Fate

Rival Schools
Artist: Rival Schools
Title: United By Fate
Label: Island
Rating: 5/10

Rival School is actually combined pools of musicians with credits such as Quicksand and CIV. Together they are United By Fate and roar through a combined strength of rock and punk.

“Travel By Telephone” is down and dirty rock, even though you may not remember it. “Everything Has Its Point” lets us in on more organic rock. It’s awfully simple and doesn’t rotate around a singular heavy chorus. As much as “High Acetate” tries, it doesn’t quite achieve punk decibels.

Over the course of the next five or six songs, Rival Schools tends to bore you. The constant tone never seems to change velocity or melody. With the cool album cover, I really thought these guys were going to rock, and though they do, it never sounds different from the song before. Rival Schools are as average as it gets.
