Plus One – The Promise

Plus One
Artist: Plus One
Title: The Promise
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 4/10

I don’t know where this group was fashioned and I’m not sure it matters at this point. I figured I should just listen to the album and judge it musically, not because this group seems to have been to put together by Mattel. The one thing that was apparent after the second track, “God Is In This Place”, is that these guys are a Christian act. The album’s title track, “The Promise”, continues on with the previous preachy way. It’s good and all if that’s what they’re about, but honestly it’s killing me as they cram it down my throat.

The first track comes out of the Zomba factory of songs where the Backstreet Boys and every other boy band comes from, as well as Britney Spears. “Written On My Heart” is decent, but sounds more like something that ‘NSYNC left for scraps for someone else to feed on.

Give me some gospel and I’ll be happy, but some sixteen-year-old telling me how to live my life doesn’t go down so well. There is only so much I can take of this shameless pop stuff, but preachy little teens are ever so annoying.
