*NSYNC have a lot to live up to and Celebrity is their attempt to show us that it isn’t effecting them. No Strings Attached set records that may never be broken, but now “Celebrity” tells us that none of that matters. The time is now and they want us to live in the moment.
“Pop” is pretty hot. It won’t bowl you over and echo in your head like “Bye Bye Bye” did, but it’s more mature and actually quite hip. “The Game Is Over”, complete with Pac-Man sound effects, is really more timely than that, if not something ground-breaking for these guys as it hits on more euro-flavor that seems to be making its way across the pond.
As much as I hate to admit it, “The Two Of Us” is quite good, a well-paced ballad, whereas “Gone” is much more typical. “The Two Of Is” just more full flavored and original.
Celebrity isn’t much different from anything else *NSYNC released in the past, and though it is a touch more mature, it’s extremely similar. The biggest thing about Celebrity is the lack of an absolute star-quality single. The songs on the whole are better than anything they’ve packaged in the past, but is that good enough for fickle popsters? Well see.
