No Address – Time Doesn’t Notice

No Address
Artist: No Address
Title: Time Doesn’t Notice
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 5/10

CORPORATE LINE: On “TIME DOESN’T NOTICE,” the Tallahassee-based No Address brings an inspired spin to modern rock. Ben Lauren, a published poet and the band’s chief songwriter, offers up profoundly honest and ingenious lyrics, melded with music that is both aggressive and soulful. No Address evokes memories of classic American rock, while crafting songs that are sonically imaginative and lyrically moving.

THE GREAT:
Nothing.

THE AVERAGE:
“Too Proud” – Nice. Not great.
“Walk Away” – As close as No Address gets to being good and it’s a little too late by the time the thirteenth track arrives.
“Perfect” – Unfortunately “Perfect” is far from perfect.
“Love At Your Momentum” – Singer Lauren grunts his way through the chorus with the minimum effort. It’s nearly impossible to figure out what the song is about and that doesn’t make it very appealing.
“When I’m Gone (Sadie)” – When Kurt Cobain screeched through songs you felt his raw emotion and No Address tries a similar formula without the same effect.

THE BAD:
“It’s Alright” – It might be a good song had Lauren actually sang instead of grunting throughout.

FRANKLY: No Address has little in the way of proving they are better than any other average rock band. Everything about Time Doesn’t Notice screams average. While Europe is kicking our asses by making great American rock ‘n’ roll all of the American rock bands are busy proving they are mediocre.
