Nelly Furtado is pretty. So are a lot of people, but that doesn’t make them pop stars. Yeah right, who am I kidding? But then again they also have some really great songs. Whether they have a niche is beside the point. Popular music is just that popular.
Furtado mixes all sorts of musical genres and changes its flavor more than Ben & Jerry’s, with resins of folk, pop, hip-hop, Latin beats, and R&B honey. Once you get a song like “Turn Off The Light” in your crow, it’s hard to let it go. Smarter is “I Will Make You Cry”. For those wafting pleasures there are streams of mediocrity.
Nelly Furtado has a few songs that may toot your horn, but generally the album is all over the place and may mix you more than it fits you. For all its confusion, it’s good that Furtado was able to get it out her system now. Look out world because Furtado has a lot more to offer.
